Become Indistractable with Nir Eyal

Nir Eyal is the author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products and Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life.

Previously, he taught as a Lecturer in Marketing at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Design School and sold two technology companies since 2003.

For most of his career, he has worked in the video gaming and advertising industries where he learned and applied (and at times rejected) the techniques used to motivate and manipulate users. He writes to help companies create behaviors that benefit their users while educating people on how to build healthful habits in their own lives.

This is what we talked about during our conversation.

  1. Nir's background. How it all started for him.

  2. He explains what external and internal triggers are, and the role they play in distracting us.

  3. Nir shares the process that he goes through every time he notices those triggers.

  4. He explains what “surfing the urge” means and how mantras can help you stay in control.

  5. He talks about his business plans for the future.
